Stephen Parkes wins Men’s 200m IM crown: Day one – 2011 Australian University Games
Day one of the 2011 Australian University Games ended with a scintillating performance of University of Sydney athlete, Stephen Parkes in Gold Coast, Australia, on Tuesday, September 27. The session of the meet conducted the Men’s 200m Individual Medley
final heat.
In the corresponding race, Parkes powered the finishing wall in 2 minutes and 10.51 seconds to win the golden crown on the podium. Meanwhile, Raymond Mak of University of Melbourne took home the silver medal on the podium by submitting an impressive time
of 2 minutes and 12.09 seconds.
On the other hand, Andrew Kennedy of University of New South Wales picked bronze title by posting a time of 2 minutes and 13.28 seconds. Atte Liimatnien of Macquarie University earned fourth place in a time of 2 minutes and 14.54 seconds, while Thomas Clarke
of University of Tasmania was placed fifth in a time of 2 minutes and 15.56 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, Christopher Warren of Macquarie University picked sixth position in a time of 2 minutes and 20.93 seconds, whereas, Lucas Liew of Monash University settled seventh with a mark of 2 minutes and 25.76 seconds. Last, but not the least,
Shane Kingsbury of University of New South Wales earned eight place honours after he ended his swim with an impressive mark of 2 minutes and 28.11 seconds.
Earlier, the Women’s 4x100m medley relay crown was clinched by University of Melbourne’s squad of Grace Loh, Sam Marshall, Marieke Guehrer and Jessica Morrison with a winning mark of 4 minutes and 20.05 seconds. In the corresponding splash, Queensland University
of Technology earned silver medal with a mark of 4 minutes and 35.35 seconds, while University of Queensland settled for bronze with a time of 4 minutes and 42.45 seconds. Bond University finished fourth with a time of 4 minutes and 58.34 seconds.
The arena appreciated the efforts of all participants of the meet on account of their impeccable performances, whereas, the victorious swimmers were awarded with medals and accolades after the end of day one’s events.
