Stephen Rowlings downs Michael Leslie in final frame decider – 2011 World Snooker Q School
The Englishman Stephen Rowlings has defeated Michael Leslie by a frame score of 4-3 in the best-of-seven frames match in the Round 1 of the Event 2 of this season’s World Snooker Q School.
This event is being staged at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield.
It was a cutthroat competition between the Englishman and the Scot Michael Leslie but in the end, it was the Englishman who held his nerves to clinch the victory in the final deciding frame.
The overall score-line between the players was, 13-111 (87); 73-0; 77-47; 38-46; 25-70; 66-25 and 69 (53)-22.
Leslie dominated the first frame in straightforward fashion, as he fired an overwhelming break of 87 to lead 0-1. However, any early nerves were removed by Rowlings, as he pocketed the following second and third frame on a bounce to turn a one-frame deficit
into a one-frame advantage at 2-1.
The fourth frame was a scrappy affair. A bout of safety play was seen from the players but Leslie came on the top to level the things at 2-2. He also took the fifth frame without doing anything outstanding to leave his opponent down by one frame with two
to play.
The match was almost through as Leslie, who needed only one more frame to seal his win, was again the first one to be among the balls in the sixth before he lost control of his emotions, breaking down on 25 and was punished from his opponent who levelled
the score-line by 3-3 to force the final deciding frame.
There was a similar story in the deciding frame, as Leslie got the first chance in it before he lost his nerves after rolling in 25 points and when the chance presented itself, Rowlings finished the matters off with a superb break of 53 under pressure.
Stephen Rowlings will now face Alex Davies in the next round, which is certainly going to be a promising match.
