Stephen Strasburg bags the National League Pitcher of the Month status - MLB Update
When a top prospect actually lives up to their potential, a club cherishes an ideal outcome of an investment they made. Stephen Strasburg became part of the Washington Nationals in their 2009 Major League Baseball draft.
From the very first day, Strasburg has shown the credentials. His fabulous outings in first month of the season have now earned him a formal distinction of being best Pitcher of the Month in the National League.
While he will grab many of those ahead, the Nationals in the meantime enjoy services of a starter, who is not prone to frequent injury and is enriched with a penchant to stand-out.
His repertoire is exhaustive. Two-seam and four seam fastball along with a curveball make him a complete starter. More than anything else, what distinguishes him from others is the effectiveness with which he can employ them.
He is yet unfamiliar to most of the batters. Thus, his ability to draw easy strike-outs with minimal walks may have taken a boost against this backdrop.
Hitters will think of him one way, while he will be busy on another. Unable to read him precisely, they will err and fall to his tricks more often.
In an un-hindered one month spell, he went through systematically. Fulfilling his role, he will kick off the proceedings and will spend reasonable number of innings with least walks and hits.
By the time he will get off the mound, relievers will have minimum work to do.
The Nationals can take positive from the fact that Strasburg is not losing any vigour on being accredited with the Pitcher of the Month status.
On being asked about this, he expressed his strategy to move on further. For him that distinction is just a tip of an ice berg, which he feels has yet to come through from him.
“I’m just trying to do what I’m capable of,” Strasburg said. “A lot can change. It’s a good start, a good month. I’m just really trying not to put too much pressure on myself.”
Despite a many other powerful arms the Nationals have, Strasburg has a knack of his own. He is young and enthusiastic. Certainly his contribution is going to be the most decisive if the Nationals go on to have a great season of their Major League history.
