Stephen Strasburg still part of Washington Nationals even with his shut-down - MLB Update
Stephen Strasburg stays with Washington Nationals as they compete in the playoffs and make their way toward winning the glory in the season.
Strasburg was shut-down by the Nationals in the season owing to Tommy John surgery that he went through last year.
He is excited to see his team performing well in the post-season. He is spending time with his team-mates and trying to become part of the atmosphere.
Although he is not on roster, he is throwing pitches to his team-mates just to keep his arm in proper position.
Strasburg has played an important role in bringing the Nationals that far in the season. Winning streaks posted in the beginning of the season by the Nationals have a lot to do with consistent performances by Strasburg.
Strasburg has been their main pitcher when it comes to arresting the decline and putting them back on winning ways.
Number of times in the season he brought wins for the Nationals at a time when they were experiencing a slump.
As a result, he restored their momentum time-and-again and never sent them out of contention with regard to clinching the Division Championship.
As Strasburg backs his team up from outside, he will be entertaining feelings of going on the mound and standing out for the Nationals in such important games.
If Strasburg was not shut-down, he will certainly be throwing in place of Gio Gonzalez in the first match of the five game National League Division Series.
Gonzalez while talking about Strasburg’s presence in the team for watching playoffs matches has stated that his presence on rotation will have been a great competitive edge. Strasburg is as much part of the playoffs team as any other player in the side.
“It’s great to have him here and he deserves to be a part of it just as much as we do,” said Gio Gonzalez. “We would love to have him in our rotation. We would love to have him play now, but I think that we are both going to experience this together and
we are both going to have some great times.”
Strasburg will be looking to support his team-mates and encouraging them to put up splendid performances.
He will be hoping that the Nationals end up clinching something substantial in the season.
