Stephen Wen announces Foil Fencers for 2011 European Fencing Championships
After Sabre and Epee nominations, the National Coach of Foil discipline also declared the name of foil fencers, who will be competing on Wednesday in the 2011 European Fencing Championships, which is to be played in Sheffield.
The Blue Foil team has a big chance of winning the 2011 European Championships as they had already won several World Cup tournaments and World Championships titles. Furthermore, the Blue fencers are having all the top positions in the Individual and Team
World Rankings in both Men and Women in the 2010-11 Foil World Ranking season.
The Coach admitted, "Confirmed is never easy, even worse if you have two open-behind.” The coach added the most powerful Foil athletes in the foil discipline such as the 2009 and 2010 World Champion, Andrea Baldini. The coach, Wen said, “The opponents will
want to avoid at all costs meeting again on the podium. I know that will be very aggressive but I also have a talented team with the athletes. I mean, men in the field, but also to Andrea Baldini Andrea Cassara, both authors of a satisfactory season for the
World Cup, not forgetting that last year Valerio Aspromonte in Leipzig and also won the European silver George Avola, also starring a good season.”
Men’s Foil team will be consisting of the World Champion, Andrea Baldini, Andrea Cassara, Valerio Aspromonte and George Avola, while Stefano Barrera will be sent as a reserve, in case of any emergency. Similarly, Giovanna Trillini will be the reversed athlete
in Women’s Foil discipline, while the Number One ranked Elisa Di Francisca, Arianna Errigo, Ilaria Salvatori and Valentina Vezzali will be participating in the both Individual and Team competitions. Stephen, himself will serve as the head coach for both Men's
and Women’s all Foil competitions during the European Championships. Giulio Tomassini and Paolo Paoletti will be serving as the masters during the Championships.
The schedule for Men’s Foil Individual is set for Thursday, July 14, while the Women’s Foil Individual will take place on Friday, July 15. Men's Foil Team event will be played on July 17 and Women’s Foil Team competition will be held on July 18.
