ive started reading her books and atm im on "eclipse " i read about the volturi but i dont quite understand what they do and stuff ?

can someone explain it to me because im really not willing to read it all over again . thanks.

They are pretty much there to make sure that the secret life of vampires doesn't get spread.

So that vampires are careful with how they feed and won't reveal themselves.

They're like vampire policeman. They monitor all the other vampires and make sure nothing bad is going on. They've also been referred to as vamp royalty.

The Volturi live in Volterri, Italy, and basically they're like the vampire "royal family" just because they've lived the longest and their clan is so big. Their job is to make sure the vampires never reveal their secret in any sort of way. That's why in New Moon, when Bella found Edward, the guards had to take them to Cauis, Aro, etc. They said they'd have to kill Bella because she knew their secret and were afraid that she'd reveal it. So Alice told them that they were soon gonna give Bella immortality (which is the only way they wouldn't kill Bella.) So just to make sure, they got one of the Volturi guards to read Alice's mind to check and see if she was lying.. which she wasn't.

Yeah, don't worry. I was confused, too, that's why I had to read New Moon a second (and third) time. Sorry if my explanation was even more confusing, but I hope I helped in some sort of way.
