Stephon Marbury = Steve Nash ?

Question

how is Marbury selfish ? he averaged 7.8 assists per career ( 9.3 in 1998, 8.4 in 1999, 9.3 in 2003)

Nash's career average is 7.9 assists, only 0.1 more than Marbury. How is Marbuty selfish if he passed so much ?

Stephon Marbury is not selfish. I've watched Marbury play on the Knicks, and he tries to get the ball to his teammates. The reason why Marbury always gets accused of being selfish is because most of the teams that Marbury has played on have been losing teams, and a lot of people blame him for the losing. He's not as good as Steve Nash, but he's almost as good. When you compare stats, Marbury clearly outperforms Nash. Nash gets the edge, however, because of his MVP awards and playoff experience.

Stephon Marbury is a different player today than he was several years back in 1998, 1999, 2003.  And most certainly a different player than when he was playing with K.G.

Stephon's passing is under-rated and i think you make a great point- but you can't look at stats alone.  Nash who we know is a great three point shooter- has probably given up some of his points per game- to run the floor and he makes his teammates around him better.  i think Stephon has failed to do that, been on some really bad teams and had a pretty bad attitude which is why he is perceived as a selfish player who can't make his teammates better.

Statistically though as you've shown the players are strikingly similar- but you can't just look at numbers.  You ask any G.M. who they'd rather have Steve Nash or Stephon Marbury- and i doubt you'd find one who would want Starbury over Nash. (and this is coming from a Laker fan who doesn't really like Nash).

Marbury averaged 16.1 shots per game in his career and Nash avgs. only 10.6 shots per game in his career.  Thats the big reason.

The teams Marbury have played for over hte last 10 years have had little success, because he have failed to make the core around him better.

But Nash was on the elite mavericks before he came over to the Suns and turned them into an elite team.
