Stephon Marbury says Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire would not stay in China for long: NBA News
Recently during an interview, the former point guard of the Milwaukee Bucks, Stephon Marbury said that he does not think that Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire will look to play in China.
According to Marbury, who is currently working out in Los Angeles, “I don’t think those guys will want to go through it. China is not for everybody — a whole ‘nother world. I don’t think they’re going to go there, not the big-time
guys. Maybe they’d come for a little bit, but if the season is cancelled for the year, I don’t think they’d want to stay. They’ll want to go home.
Marbury also added, “I don’t think Carmelo Anthony is going to run like they want to run in practice. They want to run you to death. The first time I got there, they ran in practice for two straight hours. I said, ‘Is that what
we have to do every practice?’”
Marbury has an experience of playing in the Chinese Basketball League. The 34 year old veteran has been playing with the Chinese teams from 2010. Currently he is playing with the Foshan Dralions. Although he has done well with
the Chinese team, but initially it wasn’t easy for him.
However, in this whole stint, what Marbury has learnt, is the value of the stardom. When Marbury joined the Chinese league, he was already over his prime. Therefore, he did not fall in the category that includes Anthony and Stoudemire.
Both Carmelo and Amar’e are enjoying their primes and in addition to that they have influential agents behind them that can get them a contract of their own choice.
The culture of fitness and the game discipline involved is something that both the superstars are not accustomed to and continuing in the Chinese setup for long may prove difficult for them. Chinese might welcome the star player
and Anthony and Stoudemire will have an edge over the others. One can call it unfair, but then again that’s how things work in China, as the stars can enjoy too much leverage in this culture.
