Stepped on a nail, why should I have it checked

I just read about a woman who did this, though usure for me.

To make a long story short, I put my foot down as we all do in ambulation. It was a strange feeling since it went in so deep.(I shiver to think of the piece of wood that came off the floor with my foot)Pulled it out-antibitic ointment, then a large pad bandade-done.

Though I know it went into the middle of my heel three inches distal, or I mean 3 inches from the end of my heel. am aware that we have a fat pad there, so the nail did go a good half inch or over. That's what why I refered to the feeling(being harpooned).

It is 8:43 A.M. in Saint Louis at the moment. I did this around 6 P.M. yesterday.

It is starting to hurt. I know I should go have it looked at, my POUNT!

"Yes that did go in quite deep, it may hurt much worse. Elavate and Ice may help, though you will have to dicontinue the ice. You mentioned that you had a tetanus shot 6 months ago, so that's positive. I giving you a script for Amoxicillin. Try to stay off it as much as you can. O'h I should give you something for the pain. So your good to go, NOW ABOUT YOUR INSURANCE."

I have amoxicillin here. So I ask you why I should go to E.R. etc?

  1. hi . you will need a tetnus shot ( if you haven't had 1 in 10 years ) . every time at er they will ask when you had your last tetnus shot .   d.

  2. Soak your foot in hot (as warm as you can stand) Epson Salt water, at least 3-4 times a day for 30 minutes each time (especially good for deep puncture wounds).  After that, you can apply the antibiotic ointment.  Get a tetanus booster if you haven't had one in the last 10 years.

  3. you chould go to hte e.r. because who knows what that nail has been in. Well its been in wood of course but still, mice could be under the floor bourds and knawing on the nails. to prevent further infection you should go, but Its your life so you cando what ever you want.
