Question:

Stepped on a small piece of glass, it might have went in, what do I do?

I stepped on a tiny piece of glass 5 days ago. When I stepped on it, my toe had a tiny hole and started bleeding. I quickly used antiseptic and put a band-aid over it. But..

For the days after that, it hurts when I walk on that toe. It's like a sharp, cutting feeling. The cut has healed and formed new skin over it, but I think there maybe a tiny piece of glass in there.

What should I do?

  1. some say try duct tape , first soak in very hot water to try to draw the object out the apply tape gently to see if object has adhered to it. if not just repeat this daily. sometimes if you ignore it the body will absorb it or it may just com out on its own.

  2. duct tape might work, but if new skin already grew over it, your toe might have to be cut a little to get the glass out, your best bet would to be, go to the doctors as soon as possible because, it could still get infected

  3. You could try numbing your toe with ice and then using tweezers to find and take out the piece of glass. However, this may not work and if you visit your GP, they'll be able to have a proper look and see if there's really anything in there or if your toe is just hurting from being cut. Chances are that if you dig around too much in the cut it'll get infected so if you decide to look for the piece of glass yourself, then use sterile wipes on your toe and sterilize the instruments that you are going to use in boiling water.

And just to make this clear, I don't advise self-treatment as being best. If you can't fix this yourself then see a doctor.

  4. Don't worry too much, your body will eventually reject it and it will come out by itself (Assuming that it actually did enter your foot).

Most likely; your toe is just sore because it was cut.

  5. Well, two things. You can either go to the doctor, OR, you need a small needle (don't worry, your not gonna cut your toe off) and basically start to scratch slightly away at the top layer of skin on your toe wherever you think the glass may be. Then keep doing it to the next layer and the next until you find the piece of glass. If its sticking out, use either the needle, or get a pair of tweezers and very slowly pull it away. It might prick a little when it comes out, but then you'll know its out.
