I have got a DC stepper motor of torque 28kg cm and 1.8 step angle. The stepper motor will take 200 steps to make one full revolution. It has a shaft diameter of 6mm. I will be attaching a pulley of radius 15mm. The stepper motor will take 200 steps to make one full revolution. How much force is delivered for each step? What does a torque of 28kgcm exactly mean?

  1. if you have a 28cm arm on the motor shaft, you should be able to lift 1kg. that's a pretty strong motor.

  2. torque is force times distance, where distance can be the radius of some rotating object.

Assuming your pulley has negligible weight, you can divide 28 kg cm by 15 mm to find out that a string fastened to the the pulley could lift 18.7 kg continuously.
