Stepping on Fenway Park’s mound will be a dream come true for Steve Cishek - MLB Update
Series opener on Tuesday will not just be a normal continuation of the season for the Miami Marlins’ relief pitcher Steve Cishek. Instead, it will be like a fantasy becoming reality.
A ballpark he used to dream so much about all through his life will be open for him on Tuesday, where he will be throwing as reliever. Cishek has experienced the ambiance of Fenway Park only once in his life. That was enough to put the image in his mind of
its beauty.
On Tuesday, he will be visiting the club for second time in life, but this time he will not be there as a nine year old Boston Red Sox fan.
In fact, he will be playing there, as part of the Marlins’ bullpen members.
Playing against the team with which he has so deep attachments will be a great moment, not only for him, but for all the spectators sitting in the stands.
Since childhood, Cishek is following the star players of the Red Sox. He has always wanted to emulate them.
As a Boston fan, he used to be so popular in his family that whenever the friends or relatives would wish him, most probably Red Sox shirts and caps come as gifts. He would be taking care of those gifts and feel pride in being part of the Red Sox community.
Against the backdrop of such feelings for the Red Sox by Cishek, excitements for the play on Fenway Park are obvious.
Cishek’s wait for playing in the Fenway Park had started from the day schedule of 2012 regular season was announced.
“When we get there, I’m going to take in as much as I can,” he said. “I dreamed about this playing Whiffle ball in the back yard, always pretending I was a player at Fenway. To be able to set foot in the bullpen is going to be incredible. It’s going to be
amazing.”
Notwithstanding his excitements for the day, Marlins desperately need their players to step up and help the club out from the present mess of defeats.
The club witnessed their relievers not becoming the kind of force they are supposed to, late in the innings. Therefore, by carrying out the role perfectly, Cishek can put icing on the cake on his dream.
