Stepping up in trip, Lady Of Verona preferred in John Wade Waste Recycling Conditional Jockeys´ Mares´ "National Hunt" Novices´ Hurdle (Qualifier) at Sedgefield
Lucinda Russell’s lightly-raced 5-year-old, Lady Of Verona, made a fair reappearance last month, when showing great promise on her hurdling debut at Musselburgh. The bay mare is capable of better stepping up in trip, and looks a better option than Hannah
Jacques in John Wade Waste Recycling Conditional Jockeys´ Mares´ "National Hunt" Novices´ Hurdle (Qualifier), being hosted by Sedgefield on Tuesday, December 11th.
Lady Of Verona stayed out of action for more than 12 months, after making three solid efforts last month. On her last start ahead of the vacations, the mare was second to Rowdy Rocher in Hexham’s Metrocentre Always A Safe Bet Intermediate National Hunt Flat
Race (Conditional/Amateur Riders).
In the hands of Craig Nichol, she could not make an impact on her comeback, but showed plenty of promise. Holding the odds of 11 to 2, she chased the leaders brilliantly, before hitting the fifth hurdle.
The Peter K. Dale-bred ran well, but could not save herself from getting outpaced in the final stages. As a result, she ended up fourth in the Buy Your 2013 Annual Members Badge Today Mares' Only Maiden Hurdle.
Now stepping up to two miles and four furlongs, the daughter of Old Vic is likely to show good improvement. She is up against four quality runners, but the main danger is Hannah Jacques.
The 7-year-old is more than capable of setting the target for others to aim at, but it is hard to trust her after a weak effort on her previous start in October. The Nicky Richards-trained has a role to play, but looks vulnerable in this company.
None of others is likely to pose a threat to Lady Of Verona. Saddlers Mot might find a couple too strong to handle. Maggie Blue needs significant improvement to make an impact on hurdling debut. The pressure would be huge on Iain Jardine’s charge.
Texas Tilly, who is making her debut at the age of seven, is under serious pressure. The market is unlikely to show much support on her first ever outing especially against two big guns.
