Steps to becoming an elementary school teacher?

Question

I'm pretty sure I know what you need to become an elementary school teacher but what steps should I take? How long do I stay in college before transferring? What courses do I choose? Majors?

I really don't have any idea about what I should do. I'm going to become a junior and time will pass by real fast so I just want to get a head start and find out what I need at the time and choose the right colleges/universities. Thanks =]

Whatever college you attend, go to that Department of Education and ask about paths to Teacher Certification and choose the one that's right for you.  --OR-- You could get Alternative Certification through your state.

In California... You will need to choose a major (I chose Psychology), then once you have enough units you will start taking classes towards earning your certificate, you will also have to take the CBEST and CSET tests.  Once you get to college you can talk to a counselor and discuss the best plan to get to your goal.
