First ask yourself if you have very good skills in each of these areas: carpentry, drywall, plumbing, tile setting & cutting. If no, then you need to find someone who does know to help you.  

But the basic steps are:turn off water, tear out old materials, replace deteriorated substructure, re-plumb as needed or wanted, lay & grout tile, turn on water.
