  1. Convert your US $ to Australian $

  2. its super hard. my hubbie's american and we had trouble, but after almost $20,000 and 9months paperwork he became an aussie resident.

anyways if you do not have family here or a fiancee you can only get into australia a few ways.

student visa which basically means you must be studying and the cost of study for international student is very very expensive ($5-10 thousand a semester from when i went to uni). theres a heap of paper work too.

if you have a skill australia needs you can come in after again a bunch of paper work and money. just for the 1st applications its $2200. or you can get sponsorship from a company and they actually pay for it. this is very hard to get unless you have a high paying proffessional job.

with each of these steps you do need to proove that you have almost perfect health. they even frown upon ppl being overweight as this ends up causing many diseases and aussie gov doesnt want you relying on public health care system.

    also no criminal records.

also you must have a few thousand in the bank after spending all the money on immigration. just in case you do not get a job straight away. as they do not want you on social security.

this is the site that has everything you need. www.immi.gov.au

by the way if you are serious about this i would definitly get an immigration lawyer to do all paper work. i know it costs a fair bit more but one questions missed or answered incorrectly you get denied and after that its super hard to get into the country.

    good luck.

  3. Australian immigration visas are restricted to people with skills and experience in an occupation in which Australia has a shortage of workers. If your occupation is on the Skilled Occupation List (the SOL), you also need to pass a points test and meet health and character requirements. For info, see:

    http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1121... (the SOL)

    http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-s... (the points test)

If you don't qualify, your best avenue is to come here as a student and get an Australian qualification, then apply when you are able to meet the requirements - they are lower for people with Australian qualifications.

If you have or are enrolled in tertiary education, you can also come here on a 12 month Working Holdiay visa, but this cannot be extended beyond 12 months and cannot lead to residency.

  4. If you are a young canadian you can live and work there for a year if you get the proper visa - there are only so many visas awarded every year. No such system for young americans that I am aware of.
