Question:

Stereo Speakers to a Computer?

I am thinking of putting outdoor speakers on our outdoor porch.

We have a spare room on the second floor and the computer is going there. What I wanna do is drill a hole through the wall and put a few wires through it.

Now I was just gonna make a huge mediaplyer playlist and use that. But I need a few things that i dont know what to type into google to look for.

I need a remote or other type of thing to change the song that has a USB receiver that I could run through the wall and just keep in a plexiglass box hanging on the outside wall. I also need something to plug the speakers into. Im guessing there some sort of box that I need that plugs into the computer thats the box LIKE suround sound but not as expensive. Im just gonna buy some outdoor speakers and plug them into it. Can a someone show me a few remotes and box thingys (lol) that are cheap but good?

  1. Huge amount of options for remotes: http://www.google.com/products?q=windows...

Check out that link, and look for one in your price range. If you get one that is RF (radio frequency) it will work through walls and you won't need a receiver for the remote on the outside.

For your speakers, its important to know if they are powered or not. Speakers have to be amplified to produce sound. Your computer speakers most likely have built in amplifiers, and you can buy outdoor speakers with built in amplifiers as well. If you're trying to use older speakers, there's a good chance they don't have amplifiers built into them (it's easy to tell, if they don't need power [batteries or an outlet]) then they need a separate amplifier. The cost of the amplifier is directly related to how powerful it is. For outdoor sound, you'll need something a little more powerful than you would for indoor sound in a same size area. E-bay is a good place to start for that (anything you buy new for this purpose will be overkill unless you plan on adding more speakers). You can also get speakers that are wireless (they don't have to be connected to the computer) to put outside, then you don;t have to drill ANY holes in your house: http://www.google.com/products?q=wireles...

    Good Luck!
