Stereo code 2000 montero sport?

I JUST BOUGHT A 2000 MONTERO SPORT &IT SAYS NEEDS CODE I FOUND THE CODE IN OWENERS MANUEL BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN THE STERO SAYS ERROR WHAT DO I DO NEXT. ALSO FOUND OUT IF YOU PUT CAR ON ACC PUNCH THE ON BUTTON THE CODE IS SUPPOSE TO COME ON THE DISPLAY THAT DONT WORK EITHER

First you should go through the glove box and check the owners manual or look for any codes written on or inside of it. Also there is often times a business card size card that may have your code on it. If that doesn't work you may be able to call a local dealer with the VIN number of you car for the code. Lastly if that doesn't work the radio needs to be pulled from the car and the serial number on the radio will need to be given to the deal for the code. Good Luck
