Question:

Stereo installation problems in 99 dodge intrepid?

I am installing a kenwood kdc-mp528 into my 99 dodge intrepid. The car had the factory stereo in it and it only had a cd player. I have the wiring harness and ground etc hooked up, but there was a plastic clip with a single wire that hooked into the back of the factory cd player. It is a violet/yellow wire. I can get the cd player to turn on butno sound comes out. I tested it on a regular house speaker and it worked. So my question is what is this violet/yellow wire for and what needs to be done with it. I beleive this is what is preventing sound from coming from the speakers. It was not a infinity factory system that was installed, just the ac-delco cd player installed in most dodge/chrysler/jeep products. Thanks for any help

  1. Take a jumper wire hook to a specker wire. And touch the other end to the yellow/violet. If the speaker put out.  But first check to see if has power on it. If it does not then do the above. The old cd may have been ground out side the radio through the speaker. On the the other hand it sound like the main speaker, the speaker are controled by gounding each through the radio. The easy way is go out and buy a adapter kit for the unit you are installing in a Dodge. Otherwise you will hap to do a lot of wiring with guest work at every step that you could blow the new unit.

  2. if it was a single wire connecting to the back plate of the oe stereo that is the ground wire.
