Steve Blake injures foot; will miss at least three weeks of practice
Los Angeles Lakers announced on Monday that reserve point guard Steve Blake will sit out three weeks of practice because of a puncture foot he suffered after stepping on a spike in a parking lot.
Blake is entering his third season with the Lakers and even though he has not been able to live up to the expectations on a consistent basis, his contributions during last season’s playoffs were impressive.
Blake averaged only 5.2 points and 3.3 assists per game during the last regular season, but in the playoffs he upped the ante with a 6.3 points average at nearly 42 percent from the three point range. The highlight came when he
erupted with a19 point performance in the Game 7 win against the Denver Nuggets.
In his absence, the Lakers are left Chris Duhon and Darius Morris to fill in the reserve role behind the two times MVP Steve Nash.
Anthony Tolliver and Mickael Pietrus close to signing a new NBA contracts
Anthony Tolliver and Mickael Pietrus are two veterans who still remain as free agents because of their unwillingness to accept the veteran’s minimum being offered by various teams. However based on their recent comments, it does
seem that they are looking very close to finding a new deal.
There were speculations that Tolliver might be on the verge of heading back to Minnesota Timberwolves but that door was closed on Monday and Lou Amundson agreed to a one year deal. However, Tolliver remains adamant that he is close
to signing a new deal and is now down to only two teams - Atlanta Hawks and Phoenix Suns. In order to land a new deal though, he might have to give in to his demands.
“A lot of veterans are taking the minimum,’’ Tolliver said. “That might be the new normal.’’ Tolliver made $2.05 million last season. But he will have to take a cut to $915,852.”
On the other hand, it is still not sure where Pietrus is headed. The 30 year old guard, it seems, will also have to accept the new financial reality for the veterans. While talking to the Basketballsession.com recently, the player
said;
"I would have signed already, but financially, it's not what interested me. I am on good tracks with two teams ... For me, part of the history of Boston, it means a lot in my career. We'll see next week when Mickael Pietrus will.”
