Steve Bonnar: I beat Anderson Silva and it is like the perfect ending – UFC News
Steve Bonnar is a lucky fighter, as he got a title shot at Anderson Silva without even working hard for it. On one end, there are fighters like Chris Weidman, Michael Bisping and Brian Stann who are trying their best to get a title shot, and then we have
Steve Bonnar, who was talking about retirement just months back and now he is facing Anderson Silva at UFC 153.
Bonnar believes if he is able to beat Silva, he will be a better brand and he would be able to earn more. Similarly, he also asserts that he will have the option of ending his career with a major defeat like this one or move on to be rich.
When asked about his plan against Silva, the challenger stated, “I’m going in there [against Silva] to win or die trying. That’s the plan.”
“If I beat Anderson I won’t have too much of a problem getting that coaching gig with a fighter like Forrest. I just heard that in the history of UFC I’m the biggest underdog they’ve ever had. And I’m fighting in his backyard. Talk about no pressure, it
doesn’t get any better.”
“Fear is a great motivator and so is money. I’ve got this T-shirt business and all that. It’s doing all right, but I’d really love to blow that up and make it successful.”
It was quite shocking to learn that a fighter like Steve Bonnar will be challenging Anderson Silva for the title. It should be noted here that this was a desperate move on Silva’s end, as he was trying to save the UFC 153 card.
Probably, Silva was just trying to play safe, as he did not want to be hated by fans and UFC officials for letting the card fall, something that Jon Jones did. Silva has not spoken much about the fight and it seems like he is confident enough that he would
win it.
For now, Bonnar feels lucky and excited. He wants to lock horns with the best mixed martial artist in the world and defeat him to be the number one among all.
