Steve Bruce blasts http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358’s move to Aston Villa
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce feels that Darren Bent betrayed the players and the fans, after the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international left the Black Cats to join Aston Villa.
Bent recently joined Aston Villa on a four-and-a-half year deal believed to be worth around 24 million pounds. The England international became the most expensive acquisition in the club’s history, easily surpassing the previous record set by the arrivals
of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221 (12 million pounds each).
Bent’s former boss, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce, says that he is extremely disappointed with his star striker’s decision to leave the club.
Speaking on the striker’s move to Villa Park, Bruce said, “It's hugely disappointing that Darren has decided that his future lies away from Sunderland and the players, our supporters and the club as a whole has every right to feel massively let down. The
timing is especially hard to take, given that we are progressing positively and are in a great position to push on.”
The Sunderland boss went on to claim that Bent’s performances in recent weeks were affected by his secret transfer plans. Bruce added, “Everyone has been nothing but supportive of Darren in his time at Sunderland but it's obvious he's not been himself in
training and we've certainly not seen the best of him in games in recent weeks - and now we understand why.”
Darren Bent has been Sunderland’s most prolific striker over the past two seasons, scoring 32 goals in 58 appearances for the Black Cats. However, Steve Bruce insisted that Sunderland would not suffer due to the striker’s departure. The Sunderland manager
assured the fans that Bent’s absence will not affect the team as they aim to secure a spot in the Europa League next season.
Bruce said, “I've always stated that my aim is to build a talented, young squad for the long-term to help the club achieve sustained success, and I want Sunderland fans to know our ambitions haven't changed on that front.”
Darren Bent will make his debut for Aston Villa against Manchester City on Saturday 22 January.
