Steve Bruce decides to stick to Sunderland Club until 2014 – English Premier League update
The current Sunderland boss, Steve Bruce, has signed another contract with the English Premier League association football club. According to the new contract, Bruce will remain in charge of the Black Cats until the year 2014.
Steve Bruce is not only an English football manager but also a former football player. Despite his great performances on the soccer grounds, Steve never acquired real success as a player in the football arena. He began his professional coaching career at
Sheffield United club, in 1998. However, the myriad problems at the side made the English manager resign from his managerial post in 1999.
After the persuasion of Barry Rubery, Steve eventually joined Huddersfield Town. However, the retired footballer stayed there for only a season and left the side after getting sacked in October 2000. Since the year 2001, Steve has managed several, well respected
clubs including Wigan Athletic, Crystal Palace, Birmingham City and most recently, Sunderland Association Football Club.
In 2009, Bruce was finally given permission from the Wigan http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Athletic-Club-c38535 to discuss his transfer move to Sunderland. So, on 27th May 2009, Bruce succeeded in winning over the Black Cat’s former manager Ricky Sbragia’s post. Sbragia, who had already
resigned after the last game of the season, had left his seat vacant without a successor in line.
The first season at Sunderland club didn’t go exactly the way Steve had planned. With fourteen matches without a single win, the manager was completely disheartened. However, he did manage to lead the Black Cats to a thirteenth position finish in the English
Premier League rankings. Despite the first season, Bruce has had some great success at the Stadium of Light.
Upon the contract extension, he has expressed his feelings for the Northeast club by saying that he is absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract with the team. He stated that it’s a magnificent club from top to bottom, with wonderful support and
surely has everything in order for a manager.
Niall Quinn, the Chairman of Sunderland club commented on the contract extension with Steve as: “It was hugely important to bring stability to this football club and I firmly believe that, in Steve, we have the man to do just that. In only 18 months, he
has reshaped our squad beyond recognition, bringing in some fantastically talented players, many of whom are young and desperate to achieve and improve.”
With the contracts out of the way, Bruce can now concentrate on bringing the club some silverware.
