Steve Bruce determined to stay on as Sunderland manager
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce claimed he was not the one to walk away after his side suffered yet another defeat. The Black Cats lost to Wigan Athletic 2-1 at the Stadium of Light, a loss which has only increased the cries for the removal of the English
manager.
Similar to Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 manager Steve Kean, Bruce was also subjected to chants from the home crowd. This has cast a doubt over his future as the manager of Sunderland, especially after owner and chairman Ellis Short was in the stands.
However, despite the defeat at Sunderland’s somewhat permanent spot at the bottom half of the Premier League table, Bruce revealed he was not a quitter and had no intention of leaving the club any time soon. He insisted the thought had not even crossed his
mind.
Bruce said in an interview:
“I have never given up on anything, certainly not in football anyway. Certainly, my intention is not to walk away or quit. That's certainly not in my nature either.”
The Black Cats boss revealed patience was the key to football, but with the way things had been going for Sunderland, he did not expect the fans to be patient for very long. Bruce also admitted his future was no longer in his own hands.
He revealed:
“We are finding it very, very difficult at the moment. Patience in football doesn't last very long, but as far as my future is concerned, that's up to others.”
This clearly means that while Bruce does not wish to quit as manager of Sunderland, he could be sacked before the end of the season due to the poor results. He made it clear the decision was up to others, meaning the owner, Short.
Bruce continued:
"In terms of sticking with it and staying at it, I am certainly more determined that ever to see it through because I don't think we are that far away."
Bruce did not think he had done a bad http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 as manager of Sunderland, but felt his side could do better. The Black Cats finished in the top ten last season, but look to face relegation with the way things are going in the current season.
He added:
“But I am a resilient so and so and I have had stick all my life and come through it, certainly in football anyway.”
