Steve Bruce facing selection problems
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce is facing selection problems ahead of the club's Premier League clash against Everton.
However, the problems are of a positive nature now that star striker Darren Bent has returned to full fitness. Bruce must decide whether to start Bent against Everton or stick with the pairing of Asamoah
Gyan and Danny Welbeck who have been playing well over the last two weeks.
"Darren has been fantastic for 18 months. It gives me an awful headache.
When he was our only recognised striker, the owner (Ellis Short) dug deep and we managed to bring in Asamoah.
When Darren did get injured, he took up the mantle and he came to the plate just when we needed him. I am delighted with the kid," Bruce told Sky Sports.
Bruce has admitted that he doesn't mind having problems in terms of the players to pick while Sunderland has a good squad. He suggests that if anything, it will raise the
performance and general standard of the team in training and matches.
"The more good players we have got available, terrific. He will give
me a h**l of a selection headache, but those are the kind of decisions you enjoy making.
Danny gave his best performance at Chelsea [Sunderland won 3-0]. I don't think I have witnessed a 19-year-old play like that, with such confidence and such poise," he added.
Welbeck is currently on loan at Sunderland from Manchester United. Bruce has hinted in the past that he would like to keep the 19-year-old striker at the club permanently
but doesn't think United will be willing to let such a good player leave.
"He was a threat all afternoon [against Chelsea] and I think what summed
up the performance was Danny," said Bruce.
Betting advice
Sunderland is in a very good run of form and well placed in seventh place in the Premier League. Have a bet on the club getting a European slot by the end of the season.
Also have a bet on any three of the mentioned strikers scoring over the next few weeks.
