West Brom manager Steve Clarke has praised former Chelsea colleague Andre Villas-Boas ahead of the clash against Tottenham today.
The two managers worked together under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, where Clarke was Mourinho’s assistant manager and Villas-Boas was employed as an opposition scout.
Both men have since gone on to become managers in their own right. This season marks Steve Clarke’s first as a manager, and the game against Tottenham will be only his second as a boss. Villas-Boas however has more credentials and experience under his belt.
The Portuguese managed Porto and led them to the Portuguese quadruple two seasons ago.
Villas-Boas also served as Chelsea manager last season before he was sacked by Abramovich. Tottenham represents his third managerial stint, and he hopes to be successful and prove himself in the English top flight.
Clark spoke about Villas-Boas, and believes that his Chelsea stint was just a blip in form and expects him to be successful with Tottenham Hotspur.
"I know Andre well," he said.
"He's a good guy who worked really well with Jose at Chelsea. He was really young then but even then I could see he was really enthusiastic and he had a driving ambition to become a coach in the game. He's done great.”
"Everybody harps on about his spell at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 but before that, he had a fantastic year at Porto. So let's not forget that.”
"I'm sure he'll be successful in the Premier League - hopefully not too successful this weekend - but after that, he knows he's got my best wishes.”
Tottenham lost their Premier League opener against Newcastle last week in a 2-0 defeat. The club is now hoping to get a victory as Spurs play their first home game of the season against an impressive West Brom side today.
West Brom, in contrast, had a very impressive opening game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 at home. The Baggies dismantled the Merseyside club in a comfortable 3-0 victory. Steve Clarke has assembled a quality squad this season with the permanent transfer of last season’s
