Steve Crook and Bruce Deppe win GP14 Open at Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club
Despite some strong weather conditions, Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club’s Steve Crook and Bruce Deppe were able to win the GP14 Open regatta after a tremendous display of sailing skills at the Hollingworth Lake Sailing Club. The pair had a superb run on the
race course and clinched two bullets during their sail and hit the overall standings with 2 points after three races, which include a discard.
The fleet was comprised of 18 boats which participated in the regatta. Four boats joined the North West sailors for the GP 14 Open at Hollingworth Lake after sailing from the Midlands Area. The weather conditions were quite heavy and disturbed the participants
and the regatta committee had to shorten the proceedings to three races.
The opening race started under heavy gusting winds with the Club Commodore, Steve Crook, crewed by Bruce Deppe, getting early lead in the race which remained until the finish of the race. Peter Jacques and Pete Tate of Chase Sailing Club finished on second
podium finish. The second race was not good for the first race leaders as they tumbled down to fourth position because they failed to sail accordingly.
The second race was won by Jacques and Tate as they showed some impressive tactical skills. The leading pair bounced back into the proceedings and cruised into the lead in the third race.  Due to the discard rule of the regatta, the second race result was
discarded from the final points of Crook and Deppe and they finally won the event with two points.
Overall standings at the conclusion of the regatta:
1. 14067 Steve Crook Bruce HLSC 1 -4 1 = 2 points
2. 14039 Peter Jacques Pete Tate Chase SC 2 1 (DNF) = 3 points
