Steve Crossley signs off from the Bradford Bulls
Bradford Bulls prop forward Steve Crossley has checked out of his contract at the club, where he still had a year remaining. This decision was reached mutually by the club and the player on December 27.
Bulls’ football manager Stuart Duffy said, “Steve needs regular competitive football to keep developing his game. But with the rules at the moment the opportunities for him to play as an over-age player in the Under-20s competition will be limited as well.
I'm pleased to say there's been quite a bit of interest from elsewhere so I don't expect Steve to be without a club for very long.”
Crossley had joined the club in 2009 on a two-year contract, which meant he still had a year remaining on his contract which has been waived off by the club, keeping his last year’s poor performance when he played only two games for his side.
Previously, he was chosen for the England Academy Tour to Australia where he bagged the Player of the Tour Award. Before signing the contract at the club, the player had been with Bulls for previous three consecutive seasons where he was constantly winning
the coach’s pick for the player of the season honour.
When he was recruited, Bulls’ head coach Steve McNamara expressed his delight over the player’s uptake and said that the player has improved on his game tremendously after making it in with the Bulls.
Meanwhile, Bulls’ scrum-half Cain Southernwood has penned a deal with the Championship side Dewsbury Rams on loan period, which will be as long as a season. He joined the Bulls from Wakefield Wildcats in 2009 and has had the experience of playing at the
academy level.
While talking about Cain, Duff added, “This is a great opportunity for Cain to play at a higher level. He needs to be playing regularly and developing his talents on a weekly basis and that is something he will get at Dewsbury.”
He also mentioned that during Cain’s stay with the Bulls, he will have to oversee the responsibility of organising his side, which will be expected of him on a more regular basis.
