Steve Darcis edges past Stephane Bohli in quarter-final round – Geneva Challenger 2011
Steve Darcis, Belgian world No.92, saved his quarter-final round match of Geneva Challenger 2011 against Stephane Bohli as he came back up dropping down in the second set to win the fixture, 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-2 in a two hour 24 minutes
red circuit match on Friday, 11th of November 2011.
With the two making their way onto the Red circuit, followed by the warm up and the toss, Bohli served the match opener turning down the scoreboard, 1-0. Darcis followed the Swiss 28-year-old and levelled up the scores, 1-1, switching
back the serve.
Continuing next, the two held their serves and evened up at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and then on 5-5 before the set stuck in a tiebreaker. serving first for the tiebreaker, Bohli served out the first point, however, the Belgian higher ranked
contender blew the Swiss away winning the tiebreaker 7-5 and the set, 7-6(5), to lead the match 1-0.
Moving on to the next set, Darcis was brought down by the swiss. Breaking early, Bohli took out the second game to lead the set with straight game wins, 2-0. Darcis pulled back a game yet could not finish the lead, 1-2. Bohli magnified
his lead as he broke the higher ranked Belgian in game five, 4-1, yet broke down next losing the lead.
Darcis pulled back two games to turn the scoreboard, 3-4, however, that was the last game he could win. Bohli stormed in serving out game eight, 5-3, and broke the Belgian in game nine finishing off the set with a 6-3 win. Levelling
up the match scores the game was on now.
Serving up the third set opener, 28-year-old Swiss served out his first win of the set, followed up by the Belgian world No.92, winning his first to level the scores, 1-1. Striking first, Darcis broke the 28-year-old in game three,
2-1, and followed up with a service winner to lead the set, 3-1.
Cutting down the lead, Bohli bagged game five, however, was unable to break back and save the game. World No.92 broke again in game seven, adding another to his win lead, 5-2. With just one more game left to finish off the match,
Darcis stormed away game eight to finish off the set 6-2, and the match with a splendid recovery.
Through into the semi-final round of the ATP Challenger tour, Darcis will now play against Malek Jaziri, Tunisian, to battle out the final round seat of Geneva Challenger 2011.
