England have called young wicket-keeper from Surrey, Steve Davies, in their squad as a cover for Matt Prior for the third and final Test against the West Indies at Edgbaston, Birmingham, starting from Thursday, June 7.
Prior has picked an eye infection and his availability for the Test series finale is under jeopardy. The 31-year-old will go through a fitness test on the eve of Birmingham Test and if he fails it than Davies will be drafted in
the squad.
England and Wales Cricket Board, in an official statement, said, “http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Prior-c1984 who has an eye infection. Davies will be released tomorrow (Thursday) a.m. if not
required.”
Davies was the reserve wicket-keeper for England when they played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758. However, the Surrey player has yet to earn a Test cap. Davies will return to his county team, if, Prior is declared fit
and will play against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sussex-c852 at Horsham.
Prior took part in the practice session with the rest of the English team on Wednesday. Prior, who is a veteran of 54 Test matches for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, has been part of the English contingent in their last 39 outings. The 30-year-old has
not missed a single Test since the tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in 2009.
The wicket-keeper batsman was confident that he will pull through and will represent England at Edgbaston.
The 30-year-old tweeted, “Expect to be fine to play tomorrow. The management have got cover in as a precaution on the off chance my vision is affected!”
England also has http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867; however, he featured as a specialist batsman in the first two Test matches and England will be prompted to give
him another chance.
