Steve Davis and Jimmy White crash out of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event – Snooker Update
Qualifying session of the 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker tournament has ended producing 16 qualifiers who will take on the World’s Top 16 potters in the opening round of the competition at the Wuxi Sports Center in Wuxi, China. The competition is going to be
quite thrilling and interesting because the event has got the status of a major ranking snooker tournament.
However, two veteran potters of the snooker world, the former six-time World Snooker Championship winner Steve Davis and the former six-time World Snooker Championship finalist, England’s Jimmy White have crashed out of the tournament as they tumbled down
against their opponents in the qualifying session of the 2012 Wuxi Classic.
The former champ, Davis was up against Norway’s Kurt Maflin in the third round of the qualifying session and lost to him by the score line of 3-5. Maflin had a tremendous game against the veteran potter in the first session before interval break and unsettled
the Nugget completely to clinch the final victory.
The first scrappy frame was a bit tussling but the Norwegian potter managed to make it on top and clinched early lead of 1-0. Davis did not swallow it easily and bounced back into the game brilliantly and fired a tremendous snooker break of 99 to pull level
at 1-1. Both potters went neck-to-neck until the finish of sixth frame where the score was equalised at 3-3.
After that the legendary potter failed to improvise accordingly and tumbled down while Maflin hit back-to-back frame wins to climb to victory. Maflin will now face England’s Michael Holt in the fourth round of the qualifiers.
Meanwhile, the Whirlwind, Jimmy White faced the winner of the 2012 International Billiard and Snooker Federation (IBSF) Asian Snooker Championship, India’s Aditya Mehta in the third round of the qualifying session and slipped down against him by the score
line of 1-5.
The match up seemed an easy victory for the Indian potter as he did not give any chances to the Englishman to get back into the game and hit the win by 5-1 in the end. Mehta will be meeting England’s Jamie Cope in the final round of the qualifiers.
