Steve Davis believes Stephen Hendry should be knighted – Snooker News
Legendary Scottish snooker player, Stephen Hendry has retired from professional snooker after crashing out of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the hands of compatriot Stephen Maguire by the score line of 2-13. After his quarter-final clash, the 43-year-old
cueman announced his retirement during his post match interview which really stunned the world.
Despite the fact that his retirement was sudden, the big names like the former six-time World Snooker Champion Steve Davis believes the veteran cueman should be knighted for his valuable contributions to the game of snooker for the past 27 years. The top
guns of the game paid tribute to the Golden Brain and suggested that the legendary cueman should be knighted and the Nugget supports this proposal.
While speaking to the media, Davis said, “When you look at how the British product that is snooker has been entertaining millions abroad, let alone this country, you can make an argument for the fact he could be more decorated than he is. There's other people
in the world of sport who have won less and got more.”
The veteran added, “If you were going to judge it on his role as an ambassador and as a winner, he should certainly be up there on a cloud somewhere. Demi-god status.”
On the other hand, World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn spoke, “Steve Davis should have had a knighthood 10 years ago, and I think Stephen Hendry for his contribution to the game is right up there as well.”
The Wonder Brain expressed his gratitude to his supporters and stated that he planned for the retirement three months before he booked his place in the televised stages of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. For the first time in his 27 years of professional
career, Hendry participated in the qualifying session of the event because he tumbled down in the overall world rankings.
After crashing out of the 2011 World Snooker Championship, Hendry decided to take part in the major ranking events which pushed him down in the rankings. However, the Scotsman will now be a part of the Chinese snooker association where he will coach the
local potters. Many big guns of snooker paid tribute to Hendry for his role in the professional circuit.
