Steve Davis thrilled about return of World Snooker Championship – Snooker News
Former four-time UK Championship winner, the legendary Steve Davis is ecstatic about the return of the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The veteran is about to finish his 34th season after taking part in the 2012
World Snooker Championship, one of the Triple Crown of snooker after UK Championship and Masters snooker tournament.
Speaking to the media, Davis said, “The nerves have started, which is a good thing,” said Davis, who reached the quarter-finals of snooker’s biggest event two years ago. “It’s the one event each season which makes me feel uptight and insular and I enjoy
that because it shows how much is still means. I will be giving it everything.”
The Ginger Magician added, “At best, each match is 50/50, they are all good players. I just have to hope I can string some performances together. here will be a lot of people dressed as bananas or pantomime characters running past me.”
The Englishman will make a tour of Bedworth after the Championship where he will be participating in the 2012 Snooker Legends Cup.
The 2012 Snooker Legends Cup is an invitational snooker tournament where the people’s chosen legends play against each other in two teams. Team Davis will take on team Jimmy White in the tournament that will be refereed by Michaela Tabb.
The Nugget has been practising hard for the event where the fans will watch the likes of former three-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan, defending Champion John Higgins, 2011 UK Championship winner Judd Trump, 2012 Welsh Open winner Ding Junhui,
2012 Masters Champion Neil Robertson, 2012 Haikou World Open winner Mark Allen and the 2012 China Open winner Peter Ebdon.
Davis is placed in the penultimate round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifiers in the second seed line up where the likes of Dominic Dale of Wales, England’s Ben Woollaston, Daniel Wells and Joe Swail will be challenging him. The 54-year-old
is hoping for a superb run at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield so that he can hit the televised stages of the tournament. It will be interesting to see if Davis can carry some winning momentum into the tournament.
