Steve Fossett - WHY still declared dead, yet still missing?

With all the 21st century technology, and his pots of money, why has a body not been found in a land desert?

Even Robert Maxwell's body was found floating somewhere in the Atlantic Oceon...?

A "land desert"?????    I guess you don't know much about the terrain of the eastern Sierras where he disappeared.  Come out and take a look, and you won't be wondering anymore why they haven't found his body.

He may have crashed in water or in the shade of a mountain and can't be seen from the air. The plane he was flying was small.

There are hundreds of small lakes along his supposed flight course-if the plane landed in one of them his remains may never be found.
