Steve Hooker to kick-off this season by performing at Monaco – Athletics news
Keeping in sight the Olympics 2012, there are many athletes who have kicked-off with their preparations to appear and dominate the prestigious event. One such athlete, who is to observe this season’s debut in Monaco, is Steve Hooker, the pole vaulter from
Australia who is the Olympic gold medallist and the reigning world champion.
Born in Melbourne, the 28-year-old vaulter dominates the discipline for marking a world leading and personal best of 6.06m. For displaying such an impeccable performance, the veteran athlete is regarded as the second highest pole vaulter in the history of
the game, behind legendary athlete, Sergey Bubka from Ukrainian. Bubka had been voted as the World’s Best Athlete on many occasions in his career and was representing the USSR, until its dissolution back in 1991.
Expressing his views while writing for an international sports website, Hooker, said that his appearance in Monaco will be his first since his performance in October last year. Cherishing the chance to revive his game, the Australian said, “It is jumping
straight in at the deep end, I guess. Butthere’s no better place to start than against the best in the world in a competition that’s virtually a world championships final. I’ve been missing the adrenalin of competition, that feeling of being out there and
being competitive.”
The stellar performer wrote further that he had wanted to settle in his London base, since he had arrived in the city on June 23. He was happy over the productive use of the time he had spent in getting trained.
The gold medal winner of the Beijing Olympics 2008 further said, “The house is in Lea Valley, close to all the London 2012 venues. The Games’ facilities are between here and central London. It’s good place with great cooking facilities. Diet can often be
the hardest thing to get on top of when you’re travelling. So that’s a really positive thing.”
The winner of the 2009 World Athletics Championships was happy over the fact that he had got an opportunity to train himself at a training centre that was known for producing high-quality athletes. While highlighting the trust of other athletes in the centre,
Hooker said that Steve Lewis was also getting trained over there and whenever they found a chance, they tried to get together during training sessions.
Though presently the preparations made by Hooker are aimed at securing the top position on the podium in the Monaco event, but the way he is taking up with his training schedule, it clearly depicts the fact that he is trying to utilise the chance to lay
the foundation for his preparation for next year’s London Olympics.
