Steve Johnson sends Mitchell Frank packing in final qualies - Charlottesville Challenger 2011
Steve Johnson gave the boot to Mitchell Frank in the final qualifying round of the Charlottesville Challenger 2011.
After the two had battled on indoor hard courts of the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Virginia, it took Johnson only sixty nine minutes to send Frank to the lockers after scoring 6-3, 6-4 on Monday the 31st of
October 2011.
Initiating the first round of the match was Johnson after winning his service toss and he skilfully held his first service game to kick open the scoreboard at 1-0. Following in his footsteps was Frank, who too managed to hold his
serve and placed himself beside his adversary at 1-1.
In the following two games the players won a game each on their respective service games and the score once more tied at 2-2 by the end of the fourth game. However, in the fifth game Johnson held his serve and then in the sixth,
broke his adversary to take a mini lead of 4-2 on the scoreboard. During the last three games, the players held their serves and in doing so; Johnson managed to go one up in the match as he clogged the opening set with a 6-3 victory.
After taking a beating in the opening set Frank tried to make a return but was unable to muster the numbers. Nevertheless, opening the second round of the match was Frank and this time he got off to a good start as he held his
serve and comfortably placed himself on the scoreboard at 1-0. Johnson was also able to hold his serve and eased himself on the scoreboard at 1-1.
The players then matched a blow for a blow as they held their service games to once more tie the score at 2-2 by the end of the fourth game. From there onwards the score progressed on even terms as they kept the score tied by bagging
a game on their respective serves at 3-3, and eventually at 4-4 by the end of the eighth game.
However, during the ninth game, Frank had double faulted on his serve and endorsed a pivotal break to his adversary.  Johnson was quick t o capitalize on the break and as he served for the match in the tenth game, he hit a backhand
cross court shot to seal his victory of the set and the match.
Johnson was a better player out of the two and he did not setup a single breakpoint for his adversary in the entire set! He also managed to secure a berth in the main draw of the event.
