Steve Kean certain Blackburn Rovers improving after 4-3 win over Newcastle United in the Carling Cup
After the loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League fixture last weekend, Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean apparently received a phone call from the Spurs manager Harry Redknapp, telling him he was impressed with his side’s performance.
Despite the fact that they remain bottom of the Premier League table, the Rovers put up a decent fight against the London side. Unfortunately for them, they failed to once again win any points at Ewood Park in front of the home fans.
However, the fact that Redknapp acknowledged an improvement in form for Blackburn Rovers, could only mean that they have actually improved since the new season began. The poor start to the campaign has led to a section of the supporters call for Kean’s removal.
Banners and slogans of “Kean Out” have so far had no effect on the club owners, Venky’s, who have promised the Scotsman their support. While Kean failed to earn his side a win over the weekend, he did manage to lead them to the next round of the Carling
Cup.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 took on Newcastle United in the fourth round of the Carling Cup and in a highly competitive match, went through 4-3. According to Kean the win over Newcastle United was a sign of things to come and he was hopeful they would carry their form to
the Premier League.
Kean said in an interview:
“Sunday was a game where we had a consistent performance. In previous matches we've sometimes had a good first-half performance, not so good in the second, but I think we had a good 90-minute performance and I think we were very unlucky.”
He continued:
“I don't think on Sunday we had a bad player on the pitch. That's our standard now, and what we've got to do is keep that because I thought it was a real contrast from the last time we played Newcastle.”
The Rovers boss was certain his side had improved overall, which would guarantee better results in the upcoming fixtures. He admitted there had been a contrast in performance over the weekend and during midweek against Newcastle United in the Carling Cup.
Kean said:
“They're working on it and it's definitely improving, so if we can put it all together we'll get clean sheets and we'll score.”
