Steve Kean not offered a new contract, Venky’s to keep Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that current manager Steve Kean has not been offered a new contract, which would keep him at the club longer than his original contract. There were rumours that the Scotsman had been offered an improved contract by club owners
Venky’s.
The owners were quick to deny the rumours, claiming that they had in fact not offered the manager a new contract. The club has been struggling in the English Premier League this season and are currently in the bottom half of the table with just six points
from their opening 11 games.
A statement released by Venky’s confirmed:
“There is no new contract signed yet.”
Kean was brought in mid-season last season, replacing manager Sam Allardyce who was unable to do well with the Rovers. While Kean definitely managed better than his predecessor, saving the club from relegation, he has been unable to do well in the new season.
That has led to speculation regarding his future at the club, which has been further strengthened by a section of the supporters calling for his removal. The protests went so far that the club had to ban the “Kean Out” posters and banners at Ewood Park.
However, that doesn’t change the fact that the fans are not happy with Steve Kean and want him out. It is because of that reason that it is highly unlikely the owners would offer the Scottish manager a new contract at this point when he has failed to prove
himself.
Meanwhile, after the poor start to the season there were further rumours claiming that the Indian owners were looking to sell the club. It was believed that Blackburn Rovers failed to meet their expectations in terms of revenue generated, which is why they
were looking to part ways.
They have once again gone on to deny the rumours, claiming they had no intention of selling the club and the rumours were baseless and untrue. This Saturday will make it exactly a year since Venky’s bought the club last year.
Venky’s revealed in an official statement:
“We have no interest in selling Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 whatsoever.”
