Steve Kean praises David Goodwillie, Dundee United manager eyes Blackburn Rovers defender Gavin Gunning
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean revealed he was certain new arrival http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 to secure the services of the 22-year-old striker
from Dundee United on a long-term four year contract for a fee of £2 million.
Kean was hopeful the arrival of the young forward would help Blackburn Rovers improve in the new Premier League season. Blackburn managed an unimpressive 15 place finish on the Premier League table and Kean hopes to do better this season, which kicks off
on the 13th of this month. Kean was confident the new signings would go on to drastically improve the squad.
The Blackburn Rovers boss said while speaking to reporters:
“He's an exciting young player and I think it was time for him to move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756, he was Young Player of the Year up there, scoring 18 goals which is something we can certainly do with.
“He's a player that scores all types of goals, headers, left-foot, right-foot, tap-ins, which are always the best for the strikers to score.
I think he'll give us a different dimension.”
Goodwillie made his senior debut with Dundee United in 2006 and spent almost a season on loan to Raith Rovers in the 2007-2008 season. Since 2006 he has made 123 appearances for Dundee United in all competitions and has scored 38 goals. During his loan spell,
Goodwillie made some 23 appearances and found the back of the net nine times.
While Kean is confident in the young striker’s abilities and his potential to do well in the Premier League, his departure has left an empty space in the Dundee United squad. Peter Houston, the Dundee United manager, revealed the club was currently in negotiations
with Blackburn Rovers over a possible move for Blackburn Rovers defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gavin-Gunning-c14480.
The 20-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 under-21 international has been in talks with the Dundee United boss and could be on his way to the Scottish outfit if an agreement is reached. The youngster began his career with the Rovers in 2008, but has yet to feature
for them in the Premier League. He was sent out on a loan to various sides for more experience.
Gunning has been on loan to the likes of Tranmere http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385, Rotherham United, Bury and Motherwell up until now. He now looks to be heading to Dundee United on a more permanent move, with Houston confirming his interest in the young central defender, who can
also function as a left-back. Houston said in an interview:
“I've met with Gavin and we are working to get a deal in place.
He's quick, good in the air and strong in the tackle so we'd be delighted to get him on board.”
