Steve Kean urges Blackburn Rovers owners to spend, looks to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson for help
Blackburn Rovers manager Steve Kean urged the owners of the club to spend in the summer transfer window to ensure a successful season. It became apparent Blackburn were in need of reinforcements after they lost 2-1 to Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend in the opening clash on the new English Premier League season.
Kean revealed the club had made bids for four players, but admitted that the owners would most likely have to splash some cash to secure the new signings. He said realistic bids were no longer sufficient to sign a player and in order to keep up with the other clubs; Blackburn Rovers would also have to offer more money to attract players to Ewood Park.
Kean said while speaking to reporters:
“We have to speed up the process because I don't think we can go another couple of games having to play central midfielders at centre-half.”
With 11 players having left the club during this transfer window, Kean felt more players needed to be brought in. So far Blackburn Rovers have only signed three players and the manager did not feel it was adequate to see the club through the season. He felt money had to be spent to ensure the squad was in a strong position to compete in the new season.
He continued:
“We've got 11 players who were on the books in one form or another that have left the club since last season and we've brought three in. We need to make sure we get a good number of players coming back in and make sure we have a competitive squad.”
Kean is already dealing with a list of injuries to key players, which includes http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wolves-c40952, which did not work too well in Kean’s favour as his side conceded two goals and lost the opening fixture 2-1.
Apart from the injury sustained by Samba, there have been rumours linking the 27-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham Hotspur. Even though the sides interested in the powerful defender have yet to make an official offer, they are expected to make a bid in the last days of the transfer window.
It is for these reasons that Kean is desperate for new signings, and revealed that he could turn to Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for help. He admitted he was friends with the Red Devils boss and had already spoken to him regarding possible loan moves for players. He said he was unable to name the players since there had been no official negotiations.
Kean revealed:
“I don't want to name names because I want to be respectful of Manchester United and Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752.
We have a good relationship and hopefully we can keep going so that, if we do want a player on loan, he will be sympathetic.”
