Kirby joins Somerset
Fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steve-Kirby-c2577 has signed a three-year contract to play for Somerset after this season.
Kirby asked his current county http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 to release him from his contract at the end of this season so he could make a push to try and play for England in one form of the game.
He said: "Somerset are putting together the nucleus of a side who can be contenders in all forms of cricket and I am looking forward to competing for a place because competition is what sport is all about for me."
This is a very good move for Kirby for a number of reasons. He will now be able to put himself in the England selectors lines of sight as he attempts to win a place in the squad to play http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 next summer.
A good move for all
This is a good move for all because Somerset gets a fast bowler with plenty of energy and enthusiasm. Kirby is well known for showing the same attitude as a 32-year-old that he did when he was 20 years old.
Kirby gets the chance to play in one of the strongest teams currently playing in English domestic cricket. Somerset has proved this season that the county can compete in all forms of the game.
There are a number of players in the Somerset side that are contesting for England places. Therefore Kirby knows that the England selectors will regularly be visiting Taunton next summer and it creates more chances for him to impress. This is something he hasn't been able to enjoy at Gloucestershire.
He added: "The club has a great infrastructure as well as a very good team. I can assure their supporters I have plenty of fire left in my belly and I'm looking forward to the challenge of bowling at Taunton."
Betting advice
Kirby is a very aggressive and quick bowler that should do very well in Somerset. He will become a key figure in the Somerset attack and will be a candidate to take five wickets in any form of the game.
