Steve Lewton leads the European Tour Qualifying School
After what might be regarded as a prolonged and extended trip, from the first round to the last of the Q school final stage, Steve Lewton has finally managed to attain a 63 to lead The European Tour Qualifying School.
The weather may have been cold, with frost halting the play on Saturday, at PGA Catalunya Resort’s Tour Course but Lewton didn’t falter in his momentum. According to reports, Lewton captured his final round with a minus seven, displaying a blemish free game,
of one shot. According to Lewton’s score card, the twenty-seven-year-old adorned it with birdies amounting to seven in number, which handed him a lead of one shot front over two golfers, Jean-François Lucquin and Andrew Tampion. Critics say that Lewton has
been successful till now, due to his highly consistent game. Once the Englishman grabbed the lead, at the second stage of the qualifiers, he maintained a firm hold on the attained front, for long time. The lead, started at Arcos Gardens, earlier this week and
carried itself till the event, in Girona. Girona witnessed Lewton, carding a back to back birdie, at the closing holes of the round which maintained his stand at the apex.
According to Lewton, he tried to keep it steady. The golfer stated that he tried not to miss any greens that enabled him to make fewer mistakes. The Englishman said that the score are bound to be low, once a golfer focuses on holing a few putts. Regarding
his strategy for the game, Lewton declared that he had only one goal: to shun the bogeys. Lewton articulated that once he figured a way to keep the bogeys away from his score card, he gathered a lower score.
“The plan didn’t bother me much, when it did, I used my putter for the save” Lewton said.
About his previous performance, Lewton believes that his confidence has been the key. He stated that along with being consistent in his scores, he has also been able to remain consistent in confidence level, which he owes to the Second Stage victory from
last week. His competitors, Lucquin and Tampion, stand with difference of one stroke and has carded a magnificent 64 with a six under, after playing on the Tour Course.
