Steve Lombardozzi and Bryce Harper make history by striking home-runs in one inning - MLB Update

Despite the fact the Washington Nationals lost the game against the Atlanta Braves, Steve Lombardozzi and Bryce Harper were able to fetch a rare distinction. Rookie, Lombardozzi led off the game and struck a home-run in first. In the same inning, another
rookie namely Harper appeared on plate and hit a home-run.
As soon as the game ended, it became known that in modern Major League Baseball history, it was the first time that two rookies had hit back-to-back home-runs.
Largely the Nationals’ offence consists of young players. Before start of the season, the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson knew the kind of reality awaiting him.
He had made necessary adjustments. Using his motivational speeches and innovative style of handling the players, he had prepared the rookies to an extent that they will be competing at any level.
It is no surprise that even with injuries to the players like Jayson Werth and Michael Morse, the Nationals’ offence did reasonably great job in the season.
What Harper and Lombardozzi did on Sunday is a reflection of the kind of practice they carried out, before start of the season. While Harper has been terrific right from the day he made his Major League debut, Lombardozzi kick-started the expedition.
After thrashing a home-run in the game, Lombardozzi’s confidence will be high and that will result in better performances in the games to follow.
Getting rookies displaying power on the plate and finding veteran right fielder Michael Morse back in the line-up, the Nationals’ offence is fast embracing an ideal state. With this, the Nationals will find it easier to protect their top position on National
League East Division table.
Lombardozzi expresses pleasure over slamming a home-run, something he has managed only occasionally in the past.
“They were kind of messing with me when I walked in the dugout,” Lombardozzi said. “And then once they did get up and high-five me, everybody started yelling and then I realized he just went yard.”
Every team that experience big moments in any season, have blend of youth and veterans in the line-up. The fact the Nationals have witnessed the youth asserting mettle in almost every game, this can easily turn out to be a greatest competitive edge. Hence,
it can help them reach some glory during the season.
