If Olympique de Marseille lined up behind Bayern Munich’s superiority to justify their Champions League disposal, Les Phoceens don’t have any explanations for what they have done domestically
Last night, Olympique de Marseille bowed out of the Champions League after a 2-0 defeat at the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich. Marseille lost the game 4-0 on aggregate and never once did Didier Deschamps’ side gave a full account of their talents.
However, crashing out of the UCL should not be considered as a disappointing result especially after Deschamps’ men eliminated the likes of Borussia Dortmund and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan to set up a quarterfinal date with Bayern.
However, Marseille’s performances against the likes of Ajaccio, Evian TG and other unfashionable clubs has no justifications.
Serious questions arise on the future of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 who have been simply woeful since the turn of the new year.
Captain http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Steve-Mandanda-c34177, is clearly frustrated at how things have shaped over the course of the last few weeks that have seen Marseille fall way off the Europa League places.
Some players do not flee from their responsibilities and Mandanda is one of those players. The Frenchman knows that in order to save this season, the team needs to have a good week. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international also said that there is a sense of lack of solidarity
in the team.
“I do not know what has gone wrong. I have the strange feeling that this season’s end will be long and difficult. We do not necessarily feel solidarity in the group.”
Young defender, Nicolas N’Koulou, who is playing his first season for the Rhone giants, echoed his captain’s sentiments and says that the players are not in the right frame of mind. Though his team lost to a superior Bayern Munich, N’Koulou says that his
team did not give a good account of themselves either.
“Tonight, it’s a shame. I do not know what to say. We are able to bounce back, but we must find what is wrong. I know we can do better, but we haven’t done that. Nothing was done tonight and it sickens me a little.”
