Steve Margolis got his fingers crossed when he sends Cool Bullet for an allowance race at Churchill Downs
The 4-year-old gelding Cool Bullet was up against a formidable lineup last time he was out racing. Against the likes of Hoofit, Aikenite and Flashpoint, Cool Bullet turned in a respectable performance to finish fifth on the day at Keeneland in the Grade
3 Phoenix Stakes over at 6 furlongs on 7 October, 2011.
The son of Red Bullet, out of mare Lizzy Cool by Saint Ballado, Cool Bullet was also coming off a 4 month layoff. Prior to the Phoenix Stakes, Cool Bullet exited from Kelly’s Landing Stakes at Churchill Downs where he finished fourth on 24 June, 2011, under
M Cruz over dirt.
“He was coming off a layoff, but he’d run so well before at Keeneland that we thought it’d be a spot worth trying,” said Margolis.
Trainer Steve Margolis conditions Cool Bullet for owners Lawana L. Low, Robert E. Low and Winmore.
The Florida bred son gelding probably was a victim of a little fatigue and tiredness, not actually prepared to go for a six furlong sprint against high quality sprinters.
Now, trainer Steve Margolis thinks that he has picked up the right race for his gelding Cool Bullet as he will try to top six furlongs once again at Churchill Downs in a classified allowance race over at the main Churchill Downs track with a purse of $55,000.
It is going to be a challenge for Julien Leparoux who is available to ride Cool Bullet on 16 November, 2011. He recently posted 22 winners in a 21 day long meet.
There are 10 days left in the Churchill Downs meet, and like other trainers trying their luck over there trainer Steve Margolis will be wanting to do good as well, not only for the Churchill Downs meet but also for the future spots.
This might turn out to be a stepping stone for Cool Bullet to get to his own and get back to winning ways.
“We’ll have almost 50 head at Fair Grounds, where we had a big winter last year,” he said. “We’ve got quite a few young horses with maiden and allowance conditions, so we’re looking forward to it.”
