FC Twente Enschede head coach, Steve McClaren, has warned off http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luuk-de-Jong-c22956’s suitors by insisting that they should make a very good offer if they are to secure the services of the young striker this summer.
The 21-year-old has long been linked with a number of European clubs including Newcastle United, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Borussia Monchengladbach, who are keen to lure the Dutch hit-man away from De Grolsch Veste before the 2012/13 campaign
kicks-off.
However, McClaren, who returned to take the reins of the Enschede giants in January earlier this year after the sacking of Co Adriaanse, has now stressed that his side does not want to let go of the prolific striker this summer.
“We do not have to sell and, football being football, everybody has his price. For Luuk de Jong to leave this club then it will have to be a very good offer, one that we cannot refuse, and at the moment no-one has given us that
yet. We have already sold Ola John and I have told the club I do not want to sell any more”, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 boss was quoted as saying to the English media.
The vastly experienced tactician went on to advise De Jong, who has an ongoing contract at De Grolsch Veste that runs until the summer of 2014, that he should play another full season in the highest echelons of Dutch football before
making a move to represent one of the top European clubs.
“I would advise Luke to spend another year establishing himself in Holland doing it again, getting 25 or 30 goals and being a top striker, another year more mature, another year closer to the national team as he is in the squad
now”, McClaren concluded.
The tall striker, who joined FC Twente in the summer of 2009 after playing 14 matches for De Graafschap, has thus far made 76 Eredivisie appearances and scored 39 goals while donning the jersey of the Tukkers.
