Steve McNamara expects huge fan support: Gillette Four Nations - Rugby
While addressing a press conference on November 10, England coach Steve McNamara stated that Hull’s large fan base will help in making Saturday night’s win possible against New Zealand.
The clash is very important for the Englis side because it will ensure their retention in the remainder of Gillette Four Nations Campaign. Their participation within the series has already been jeopardised after their 20-36 defeat against Australia, in the
second leg of the double-header on Saturday, November 5.
England was not happy with the decisions made by the referee, Henry Perenara, who in McNamara’s view had unduly succumbed to the pressure of the Australian side, which had resulted in an injurious decisions for England. Initially, England failed to deliver
to the required mark, as they had finished the first-half of the game at 8-12 and later when they had closed in the gap, they fell prey to two wrong decisions by Perenara.
Despite the mounting displeasure over their recent defeat, McNamara is expecting a huge turn out for the upcoming England’s clash against Kiwis and stated, “I think it's going to be a big factor. Hull is an absolute sporting hotbed. They're as ferocious
and passionate as any group you will meet. If you get a full KC Stadium, it can be a hugely intimidating place and I think it will be a big factor for us. We are going to war on Saturday night and we will need everybody behind us. I am sure that will be the
case."
According to the news in speculation, over 19,360 people have been anticipated, which corresponded to England’s win in 2009 Four Nations at Huddersfield against the same opponents. However, this was not the only reference point, as the crowd may exceed 20,324,
which will bring back memories of the Great Britain's 44-0 win in the 2007 Test Series at the KC Stadium.
The hype for Saturday’s match compelled RFL chief executive, Nigel Wood, to share his view-points and say, “There has been massive interest in this fixture for some weeks now and it's going to be terrific to see a record crowd watch England take on the Kiwis."
He also mentioned that Rugby League fans are expected to pour in huge numbers to witness England and New Zealand lock horns with each other.
