Steve McNamara says Four Nations win will add to popularity of Rugby League
While addressing a press conference at London's Hard Rock Café on Friday, November 4, the head coach of England, Steve McNamara, acknowledged that England can bring back the lost popularity of Rugby League amongst masses by winning this year’s Gillette Four
Nations Series.
He reckons that his squad has what it takes to win the series as they have already tested their skills against Wales and France, which confirmed their strength over the opponents of the clash.
The English weighed down the French side in the warm-up match of the Four Nations, which was staged before the kick-off of the series. This was followed up by another massive 42-4 win over the meager Welsh side last weekend, which had further proved their
strength over the latter by completely collapsing their defence.
England will contest in Wembley’s second-leg of the double-header against the series’ favourites, Australia, on Saturday, November 6. Their soaring confidence over their on-field skills has made them hunger for a win. This match is very important for England
as by winning it, they will be able to keep their Four Nations dream alive otherwise they will be no more part of the campaign.
The first leg of the double-header will showcase New Zealand and Wales in contention.
Expressing his thoughts about how important the win is for side, English head coach stated, "We understand what it means. For our game as a whole it's very important, and it's very important for us as a group. We're very aware of our responsibilities as
a national team in representing rugby league in this country. To win on Saturday would be a massive boost for the game but, in context, winning the tournament is the one. To do both would be fantastic and, if we do the first, it gives us a greater opportunity
to do the second one in a few weeks' time."
If England manage to prove their strength over the obvious leaders on Saturday, this will draw them one step closer to the Four Nations’ title, which is their primary focus as they move deeper into the series with an unchanged-outfit.
