Steve Menzies included in six new faces for 2011 Super League Dream Team – Rugby League news
Steve Menzies has been named amongst the six new faces in 2011 Super League Dream Team.
Menzies will be one of the oldest player ever to have represented the Super league palette. He has inked a year-long contract with the Catalan Dragons for 2012.
While speaking about his pick based on his wonderful form, Menzies stated, “It's obviously great being recognised. I've been really happy with the way I've played this year. Personally I think it's been my best season since coming to the UK.”
Menzies himself acknowledged that his performance throughout this regular season has been great which had led to recognition of this sort.
In the dream team, along with Menzies, there are other recruits too. This includes, Scott Dureau and four other debutants namely, Rangi Chase, Garreth Carvell, Tom Briscoe and Joel Monaghan.
This year there has been no representation from Leeds, which is the first time since 1998, whereas nine out of thirteen players are taken in from the league toppers, Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors and St. Helens.
Kirk Yeaman has been named in the Super League Dream Team after five years, after his regular season got recognition. This 37-year-old is the oldest player to play the Super League game.
While speaking about his selection in the dream team, Yeaman stated, “It's business as usual. The new coach coming in is for next season. We still think we can pose a threat in the play-offs this year
and hopefully send Richard off winning a Grand Final. Rich has been here a long time - this is his seventh or eighth season - and to send him off with a Grand Final would be really fitting for him.”
Yeaman wants to give a perfect farewell to their departing coach, Richard Agar, who will end his seven-year term with Hulls after the end of this season. In order to end their long-term association, Yeaman wishes his team to end his term on a very high note,
with a victory at Grand final.
