Steve Menzies signs deal with Catalan Dragons
Australian forward Steve Menzies will spend his final season in rugby playing for French side the Catalan Dragons.
Menzies has signed a one-year deal with the French team after announcing his desire to leave Bradford earlier in the summer. Menzies says it's the ideal last step to take in his career.
"They had a disappointing season but we hope to turn it round. I am really excited about going over to Catalans Dragons for one more year. It's a beautiful place to live. I don't think my French is too
good though," said Menzies.
Menzies has a lot of skill and quality that will ensure he does well during his time in France. However, it's unusual he's making this move to France so late in his career.
Quality and skill
Menzies is a very experienced individual. He has played a lot of rugby games for different clubs and this means he will not find the transition from playing in England a problem.
His experience also means that he can help a lot of youngsters at the French club. The benefits of a very experienced player may not be something the youngsters have enjoyed and this can have a positive
impact on the team.
Menzies is very big and strong and will be a powerful player in the Catalan Dragons attack. He is also very versatile and can drop into the midfield of needed.
"He can cover many positions but we recruit him as second row. I hope he will continue his try-scoring. His experience and profile will be profitable to our young French players we trained for the last
two seasons. Steve adds versatility and instincts which will be integral in our system at the Catalans," added Catalan's general manager Christophe Levy.
